5 easy steps to declutter your home!

When you want to declutter and organize your home, your first thought might be, where do I start! This may be overwhelming! I am here to help you declutter with ease. I have 5 easy steps that anyone can do.

Downsize and simplify!

Organizing a small amount is much easier than trying to organize things that you don’t even need.

Pick a Room

Once you pick a room to declutter, you can organize that room into different categories.

  1. One for trash
  2. One for things to donate
  3. One for things that belong in another room
  4. One for things to give to a family member or friend
  5. One for your think it over items.

Organize your no longer clutter!

Let the fun begin! You can now find a place for each item that you kept. Set some rules that you are going to follow as you are going through everything. If you have a game that doesn’t have all the pieces, get rid of it. If something is broken, don’t put it in a pile that says, you’re going to fix it. Believe me, I’ve been there! I’ve kept items that I no longer liked but kept because maybe I could use it for another purpose. For me, this NEVER happens! lol I feel like I have great ideas that never come to fruition. That’s okay, you just have to start thinking more realistically.

Everything has a place once it’s organized.

After you have organized your room, everything should have a place. When you go into that room to put away a game, you have a specific spot for those things. You no longer will go into that room and throw the game in the room to pile up and declutter your room again. This allows yourself to put those items away right away.

Some declutter professionals can be a bit extreme for me but to each their own. The biggest tip for myself has been, always put your stuff away. Whether that is hanging your jacket up in the closet as opposed to leaving it on the back of the couch. Or putting your coffee cup in the dishwasher instead of throwing it in the sink. Guess who will have to add it to the dishwasher later that night anyway… So just get it done once you’re done with the cup. It sounds easy but I know it is a trained habit. I still throw my cup or plate in the sink even though I emptied the dishwasher that morning and know it’s empty. Sometimes it feels like it is so much more work to open that dishwasher door but when I REALLY think about it, I’m creating more work for myself by not doing it all right away.

Keep it clean!

Decluttering can be tough but keeping it decluttered is much more difficult. It’s a continued effort that I have to remind myself daily. It will eventually become a habit, but it is and will continue to be a trained habit. I cannot believe how much happier and more relaxed I am when I wake up in the morning to a clean kitchen.
