How to start having a more organized household.

For me, ensuring my house was clean every day was a learning process. I had little ones running around, a full-time job, drop off and pick up, cooking dinner, and completing homework. It was tough to keep my house clean when all I wanted to do was eat dinner and relax.

One small piece of advice that was given to me was to start with one area of my house and organize it. I started with my pantry.

7 easy steps!

  1. I removed all items from my pantry.
  2. I threw away expired or old food.
  3. I figured out what foods I wanted on each shelf.
  4. Put all the food on the shelf to determine what size bins I need based on what I currently have.
  5. I purchased from a few different stores:
    1.  From Ikea – white bins for the floor.https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/kuggis-box-with-lid-white-s59561188/
    2. From Wal-Mart containers with sealed lids. These were great for noodles, cereal, rice, goldfish.https://www.walmart.com/ip/Better-Homes-Gardens-Canister-16-Cup-Flip-Tite-Square-Food-Storage-Container/370961661?from=/search
    3. From Target -clear bins with no lids. This was for chips, and individually wrapped items. Oatmeal, and miscellaneous items.https://www.target.com/p/12-34-x-12-34-x-8-34-all-purpose-storage-bin-brightroom-8482/-/A-83279887#lnk=sametab
  6. I already had a can holder, a couple of turntables, and two-layer turntables. The turntables were great for holding my tall skinny pasta containers or peanut butter, Nutella, syrup, etc.
  7. Once everything had a place, I could label each bin. I ordered this off Amazon. It came with different size labels and pen for cheap!

After organizing my pantry, it was much easier for myself and my family to put things away. Everything had a place. We couldn’t just throw things back in the pantry because every time we opened the door, we had to put it back exactly where it needed to go. Now, when we put away groceries the kids like to dump out all the food and organize it in the pantry. They are a part of the organization, and they have fun with it. It’s great!
