Ever look at a room and want to make a room pop! A simply DIY accent wall can do the trick!
I’m not a professional at any of this so I say there are many factors to consider. Sometimes people say choose the largest wall in the room. If it’s your first accent wall, my suggestion is to NOT choose the largest wall. lol We chose our entry way and when I say I was soooo happy we didn’t choose the largest wall in that room, I couldn’t be happier. While maybe it could have looked better, that was too much of a commitment on such a large wall.

How do you pick a wall?
The wall I chose was the first wall you see when you open the front door. It just happened to be the smallest wall in that room. Which put my mind at ease as far as how much work we had to do.

How do you choose a color?
I was lucky enough to have an already painted accent wall from the previous owner that I liked so we kept that color. The nice thing about paint is that if you hate it, it’s very easy to fix.
How do you choose a design?
If you’re like me, this was all an experiment. I chose a pattern that if it wasn’t perfect margins, it wasn’t going to look bad. Each space was not measured, and lines were not the same length. This made it less scary if it wasn’t exact.
Once I found a design I liked, I taped it on the wall to see how it looked. This made it easy to move them around to make it look right. If you don’t plan on spraying it, I think it would be easier to paint the wall first.
We cut and nailed one piece of wood at a time. Once all done, be sure that all your nails are not sticking out. This was one blemish that we messed up on. We learned that all you have do to is take another nail and hold it on the nail to hammer it in. This will help make your wood look seamless.
Caulking everything is the next step, which can be a very time consuming and tedious step. This really makes it look like one piece of wood though.
Last step is painting everything.
