Labeling containers in your closets!
I organized my hallway closet when we first moved into our new home in 2021. This closet was the catch all for everything that didn’t go in the bedrooms or room closets. I had medicine, towels, sheets, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, extra hair product and more.
I used to buy a bunch of containers before knowing what I’m going to add in them, and I’ve realized that just allows me to buy unnecessary extra bins. I now have a closet of unused containers. It comes in handy sometimes but for now I like to organize first and then go to the store based on what items I’m going to put in each container.
- For medicine, I really like the stackable turntables. I have two kiddos so we have lots of liquid medicine and the turntable is so easy to spin around to see what medicines you have.
- I have bins for the sheets. It was amazing to see all the mismatched sheets that I had kept over the years. I ended up purging a box full of sheets that we no longer needed.
- I like to use a wire shelving item that allows you to stack bins but doesn’t require you to move all the bins to get to the bottom stacked bin.
Once all my items were organized, I bought the black labels off Amazon with a reusable chalk pen. I’ve used regular chalk but hated how I couldn’t write neatly and legible. The pen is great and easy to write with.
I realize too that after you organize all your items, it’s pretty easy to continue to keep things clean. If you have a spot for everything, there is an easy way to always put it away. Teaching your kiddos how fun it is to organize, is always a plus too!
